Have fun collecting materials, crafting a wide variety of tools and items, and exploring the beautiful isometric 2D world, both above ground and below in this incredibly addictive and fun game, The Blockheads!

The Blockheads is an adventure/sandbox game that’s similar to Minecraft’s survival mode and yet so different... and I’m not referring to the obvious graphical differences between those 2 games. As opposed to traditional sandbox games, you start off with a portal which you can then use to warp in your first workbench. The portal is also important because you can warp in bonuses, such as Double Time which increases crafting speed; more Time Crystals (semi-premium currency) or even virtual coins for trading purposes.

However, before you can start trading or crafting, you’ll first need to collect materials. Materials can be collected from the environment or from slain creatures by hand or by using a certain tool. Different tools work well with different materials, for instance, you’ll be more efficient if you use an axe to fell a tree rather than a pickaxe. Not to mention, the tools in The Blockheads also have durability. Using the wrong tool for the task at hand is almost like using your blockhead’s bare hands to gather a material and it will simply drain the durability of the tool for nothing. So, be sure to use the correct tool for the job and save some time!

Once you have enough materials, you can start crating items or more tools! Now, in this game, crafting is a pretty huge aspect of the game... and unfortunately, it is also the most “labor intensive”, where the word “labor” refers “waiting time”. Considering that there are tons of stuff you can craft along with the many workbenches that you’ll need to build and/or upgrade in order to unlock new crafting options, your blockhead will be spending most of his/her time crafting stuff. Thankfully, you can speed up the process by watching an ad video or you could, after saving up enough Time Crystals which you can happen upon while exploring the world underground.

Exploring the world in The Blockheads can actually be a quite challenging affair as well. This is mainly due to the fact that the world is pretty huge for a 2D game, especially if you take into account of the vast underground world. However, it’s not very wise to explore the world at night mainly due to these wolf-like creatures which tend to sleep on trees during the day, but roam around on the ground at night. The underground world, however, is a pretty safe and not-so-scary place to be in, even at night, as long as you have a torch around.

That said, The Blockheads also has elements of a survival game whereby you’ll need to take care of the basic needs of your blockhead/s. You mustn’t overwork them and let them have enough sleep to rejuvenate their energy level, or they will perform the actions you need them to do at a much slower pace... and if things got serious, they may even collapse from sheer exhaustion. You’ll also need to ensure that they are fed and that they feel safe in the environment they are in – they don’t like being in the dark – just so you can keep them happy and healthy. After all, a happy blockhead is a productive blockhead!

Furthermore, I particularly like the fact that there aren’t any movement buttons on the screen that usually blot out large parts of the game. Instead, you simply need to tap on a spot to make your blockhead go there. You can even queue up multiple actions and your blockhead will do them accordingly... at least until they ran out of energy.

I also like that your blockhead can actually bend down and crawl through narrow tunnels, so you don’t exactly need to carve out a tunnel that’s large enough for your blockhead to walk in. Blockheads also have surprisingly good arm strength and can perform amazing parkour feats that your character in Minecraft isn’t able to do without placing and utilizing some “stepping blocks”.

In a nutshell, The Blockheads is a fantastic adventure/sandbox game that will most certainly appeal to players who love games like Minecraft but want more crafting and doesn’t mind a game with an isometric 2D look. If you happen to be one of these people, you definitely don’t want to miss out on this amazing game. If not, try the game anyway – you may find that you enjoy playing it after all!
