Play as the creator and build a world of your own with bodies of land and water.
Choose from the many elements in the game, such as stone, soil, and water to build your world.
Introduce humans into it and either help or destroy civilizations as you see fit.
Don’t let the pixelated and dated graphics fool you: The Sandbox is a great and has been judged as one of the best world-creating games. So yes, it sits in the pedestal, along with more popular games such as Minecraft and Terraria. Speaking of which, it’s highly similar to both games, although the crafting part is replaced by you acting as the creator.
Basically, The Sandbox lets you build an on-screen world, something no game has done before. In Minecraft and Terraria, you’re launched into the world. In The Sandbox, YOU MAKE the world. You can choose from over 280 elements to put into your world, and they can interact with each other physically and chemically to give you unpredictable results. For example, you can merge water and soil to create mud, while stone and water can create trace amounts of sand.
Start from simple and normal building blocks to create bodies of land such as lakes, mountains, and hills. You have full control: everything is within your reach. Furthermore, you can grow plants, generate life, and get access to more advanced crafting tools to help your humans advance through civilizations.
Speaking of humans, you can watch as they interact with the objects introduce into your world. For example, burn a tree with fire and they will be frantic and get scared. Introduce structures, and other elements to see how they’ll react: this facet adds more to the already immersive gameplay. Apart from nonliving objects, you can place dinosaurs, ghosts, and even soldiers to terrify or smash them. You may also give them specific roles, such as being a woodcutter or a miner to have them help you build your world.
The possibilities in this game are endless - you can even introduce natural disasters, such as earthquakes, storms, and even volcanic eruptions to destroy your creations as you deem fit. Dish out thunderstorms, floods, or even burn combustible elements to try and see how your humans react. Additionally, you can also introduce animals into the fray, including rabbits, chickens, and foxes, so your humans will be able to hunt and eat.
Make your world a chaotic one by hitting it with a meteor, or by introducing guns into it. Put spaceships, cars, oil reserves, and just about anything the game provides. However, The Sandbox is a freemium game, so unless if you have patience to unlock the elements, you will need to spend cash to do so immediately. Regardless, the premium features and facets of the game are entirely worth it.
Unleash your inner pixel artist in The Sandbox and upload your creations to join the game’s gallery of over a million worlds. There are also other game modes and campaigns, such as Braniac and Arnold, that you can unlock, play, and have fun with. It will surely give you countless hours or creative and exhilarating gameplay.
All in all, we highly recommend it: it’s a must play for anyone who loves world-building games.
