Just when you think playing virtual worlds has become a bit repetitive, Utopia Realms comes in to change what you think of sandbox worlds. There’s plenty in here you’ll find familiar, and plenty more that you haven’t seen anywhere else before.

As typical of sandbox worlds, you have a big landscape to explore. It’s virtually limitless; just standing there doing nothing and staring at the horizon will show you that even the horizon seems endless!

Now, as opposed to most sandbox worlds, Utopia Realms features two camera perspectives. The default is the first person view, which you might find a bit disorienting at first if you’re used to the third person perspective of most games you play, particularly MMORPGs. The first person view here is also devoid of any arms or anything that connects you with your character, unlike first person shooters.

You could, of course, switch to 3rd person perspective simply by pressing F5 at any time of the game.

One of the mechanics central to this sandbox world is the crafting of weapons and equipment. The Crafting menu can be accessed by pressing the “O” key. You can then see what sort of items you can craft, including the ingredients that are needed for the process.

Collecting is easy, although the rarity of the items needed can make the process a bit more difficult in the long run. There are various items scattered around the world, and you can collect them by hovering the cursor over each item and pressing the left mouse button. It is then added to your inventory.

You can equip your character with various weapons and items. Simply press “I” to bring up the inventory screen, and take it from there.

Of course, designing the world is but the main element of gameplay in here. You can build your own world in the single-player realm, and bring it up to perfection based on your preferences and vision.

On the other hand, you can also visit other players’ worlds and explore it. However, you cannot always modify the worlds you visit. You’d need to ask the admins for permission first, and it would depend if you already have a connection in the game.

Your imagination is the only limit in this sandbox world. You can create almost anything, from dragon-infested dungeons to sprawling green vistas reminiscent of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film series. You can create a world full of challenges and adventure for other players. You name it, you can do it here in this game.

To play Utopia Realms, simply download the installer from the official website. You might need to update it to reflect changes to the game, and then you’re good to go. Register for an account through your email address, verify it, and you can begin playing.
